SCHOOLING IN CRINGLEFORD

As a result of public pressure the Parish Council has asked our County Councillor, Miss Judith Virgo, if the questions of schools in Cringleford can be re-opened as since the public consultation in 2004 many things have moved on. The Parish Council has talked to the developers about enlarging the allocation of land on Round House Park to accommodate a 420 place school and has consulted with the Education Department, now called Children’s Services, over this possibility and met with a favourable response. A single school for the village was always the favoured option but the site in Cantley Lane is not big enough and other options in the Cantley Lane area are not possible for a number of valid reasons. The Parish Council felt it was important not to miss this opportunity as it may be many years before a chance comes round again. Miss Virgo approached the County Council and following a debate they have agreed to re-consult the public over schooling in Cringleford. We hope that a full public consultation will be held in the next few months to allow everyone in the village and involved at the present school to have their say.

The Parish Council welcomes this move and would like to thank all those people who have been involved in the discussions so far.

INTWOOD ROAD/OAKFIELDS ROAD AND CLOSE

The recent consultation to install restricted parking in Intwood Road between The Loke and Oakfields Road has resulted in great debate and has led to a Residents Association being formed amongst the local residents. The Parish Council has allowed the Association to use the Pavilion for their first meeting where it is hoped they will elect 3 representatives to meet with the Parish Council and Norfolk County Council to discuss the options. There is no easy answer as we have seen after Colney Lane had restricted parking installed. This relieved the pressure on some of the residents but moved it down the road beyond the yellow lines to the next set of residents. Restricted parking does not solve a problem, it merely moves it further down the road and in the case of Intwood Road it will overflow onto the area outside the Post Office and our local village Shop. Together we hope that a solution can be found that will satisfy everyone.

MOBILE POLICE OFFICE

The Mobile Police Office visits the Recreation Ground in Oakfields Road every month to advise or offer guidance to parishioners on police matters. Their next visits are Tuesdays 22 April and 20 May between 13.40 and 15.10. If you have any concerns or want help on home security please visit the van.

LAND AT GURNEY LANE

There are rumours that the field at the end of Gurney Lane has been sold; in fact it has not and the owners are working with Norfolk County Council to regularise the access from Yare Valley Drive through the woodlands to link up with the UEA woodlands.
Anglian Water have finally finished their work and as set-aside is now a thing of the past, the farm was going to crop the land until we realised how much chaos the large farm machinery may cause along Gurney Lane, and particularly at harvest.
As a result, the farm will incorporate the area recently used by Anglian Water and most of the field, so that it can be grazed with the marshes, and a very wide pathway will be left unfenced, so there is good access from Yare Valley Drive to the woodland at the far end.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT REVIEW OF NORFOLK & SUFFOLK

Norwich City’s ambition to become a unitary local government authority means that the City must absorb adjoining parishes to build up its population and resources. Cringleford is on the City’s wish list of parishes to take over.
The Government have requested the independent Boundary Committee to investigate the City’s ambition and to advise on its repercussions across Norfolk.

POST OFFICE CLOSURES

Many of you will know by now that Post Office Ltd intends to close Cringleford Post Office. If it goes ahead it will mean a very sad end to one of our treasured village amenities and will be a great loss to many people in Cringleford. The Post Office would like to hear your views but any arguments against closure must be based on the following:-
• Accessibility and distance from suggested alternative Post Offices
• Transport provision – the type and availability of public transport
• Geography
• Local demographics, including deprivation levels
• Impact on local economies.
